Our Values

S: Seen

Every child and caregiver deserves to feel genuinely seen and acknowledged. We strive to create a space where each individual’s emotions, behaviours, and experiences are met with curiosity, acceptance, and validation.

P: Playful

We embrace play as a powerful tool for expression, connection, and healing. Play is the language of children, and through it, we foster safety, joy, and meaningful therapeutic engagement.

R: Respect for perspective

We honour each child's unique story and the lived experiences of their family. We approach our work with cultural sensitivity and an openness to different ways of understanding the world.

O: Organic

Growth is not forced—it unfolds naturally. We take a whole-system approach that honours the pace, rhythm, and interconnectedness of development, recognising that progress looks different for everyone.

U: Understood

We are committed to listening deeply and working collaboratively so that every child and family feels emotionally understood and supported. We tailor our approach to meet individual needs with empathy and insight.

T: Trust

Trust is the foundation of all therapeutic relationships. We nurture this by being consistent, transparent, and dependable in our care—for the child, the family, and all involved professionals.

Our Approach

At Sprout, we take a child-centered, family-informed, and developmentally attuned approach to therapy. Grounded in the belief that each child is unique and full of potential, we tailor our support to meet children and their families where they are - emotionally, developmentally, and relationally.

We integrate evidence-based therapeutic modalities with a deep appreciation for the power of play, creativity, and connection. Our work is grounded in early intervention, relational safety, and collaboration with parents, caregivers, and other professionals involved in the child’s world.

Therapy at Sprout is not a one-size-fits-all model, it is responsive, respectful, and relational. We focus on nurturing the cognitive, emotional, and social wellbeing of children, while walking alongside families as trusted partners in their journey.

Liza-Mari is an Educational Psychologist, registered with the HPSCA, and also the owner of Sprout Therapy Centre. She completed her M.Ed (Educational Psychology) degree at the University of Stellenbosch.  Liza-Mari has a background in teaching and spent time practising as a foundation phase educator and psychometrist before becoming a psychologist. Before establishing SPROUT in 2025, she worked at a practice based in Johannesburg for 2 years.

Liza-Mari has always had an interest in children and in their experiences and view of the world, believing that all children deserve a “holding space” where they can be heard, respected, and have their experiences taken seriously, to assist them to achieve optimal functioning.

Liza-Mari enjoys working with children, teens, and adults—both through therapeutic support and psycho-educational assessments. She values the opportunity to create a safe, containing space where clients feel free to express themselves openly and authentically.

She is also trained in conducting full psycho-educational assessments where barriers to learning can be identified and supported within the various systems - individual, family, school and community. In addition, I have also been trained in career counselling and school-readiness assessments.
